About Sharlene Wallace

Sharlene Wallace performs on both Classical and Celtic harps. Besides the Classical and folk music which she performs, Sharlene’s original music is a melding of various folk, traditional, pop, Classical and avant garde influences blended into a sound and experience uniquely hers: deeply evocative, rhythmic, lyrical, spacious, complex, subtle, compelling.

Her music has taken her across North America and France as a soloist, in ensembles and as a guest artist with orchestras.

Sharlene has won two international competitions, the “Lyon & Healy International Pop & Jazz Lever Harp Competition” in Tuscon, Arizona ad the “Concours d’Improvistion de Rencontres Internationales de Harpe Celtique” in Dinan, France.

Besides many recording projects she has played harp on, Sharlene has created four independent CDs frequently heard on the radio, “the rhyme & the river”, “Journey of Shadows” and most recently “Beyond the Waves” and “Island Mountain”. These CDs highlight Sharlene’s unique and passionate explorations on lever harp influenced by her experiences in Latin, Celtic and contemporary music.

After receiving her performance degree in Classical harp from the University of Toronto where she studied with Judy Loman, Sharlene worked with numerous folk harpists including Celtic harpist Kim Robertson and South American harpist Alfredo Rolando Ortiz.

As an educator Sharlene gives workshops and master classes across North America as well as being on the faculties of York and Guelph Universities and the Royal Conservatory of Music’s World Music Centre. Sharlene is the Principal Harpist with the Kingston and Oakville Symphonies.
