What is Music Care?

Music is human. Music is far-reaching. Music is an evidence-based agent of change. Music is the phenomenon. Music care is the approach.

Music is increasingly being recognized in healthcare communities as an effective psychosocial and biological intervention, increasing many aspects of quality of life.

Music care is an emerging approach to care that allows the therapeutic principles of music and sound to inform caring practices, in both formal health care settings and community- or home-based contexts. It is an approach to practice, rather than a scope of practice, that can be used by care partners of diverse specialties and contexts.

Using a music care approach can be integral to developing person-centered cultures in caregiving. Through increased awareness, education, and simple training, care providers of all backgrounds can learn principles and integrate new strategies using the music care approach.
